A Famous District

An interesting article in the newly established Denver Journal of Commerce is entitled “A Trip over  Mosquito Pass,” from which we extract as follows:  Directly east of Leadville, over the famous Mosquito pass- which is the highest wagon road on the continent, having an altitude of 13,408 feet-the chief fissure vein district of Northern Colorado is located.  The ride, as I took it on horseback from Leadville last week, was one of the most picturesque of my mountain tours.

Looking at the zigzag trail from the lower level of the gulch, as it mounts higher and higher along the great shoulder of the mountain, it appears to loose itself in the clouds that enshroud the summit and suggests the possibility of mounting into a mere airy world than ours.  Some very fine bits of scenery were exposed  to our admiring gaze while effecting the ascent.  The cloud effects, other than their moisture, were of unexampled grandeur.  A light breeze that was blowing would frequently roll them up like a curtain and expose portions of the landscape here and there.
